About Northeast BC Crime Stoppers
On the 7th of April 2010 after a successful contest the name, Northeast BC Crime Stoppers, was chosen to reflect the new structure of the Crime Stoppers Programs in the northeast of British Columbia. In choosing this name, we have followed the lead of other programs around the world who use a name that aptly describes where they live! As a program that serves the communities of Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope and Tumbler Ridge, we truly do look after the corner known as Northeast BC!
As the volunteer base in many communities diminished, it only made sense to join together with others in the region who are committed to helping the police solve crime in our communities. As an organization we are committed to providing a means for people to provide information to the police ANONYMOUSLY.
We have built on the strengths of those who have been involved in the past in our communities, in some cases with over 20 years of service. We are a volunteer-based, Registered Charitable organization that receives donations and does fund-raising in order to fulfill our mandate: Helping the Police to solve crime!
In the last number of years we have moved forward, like the rest of the world, into the electronic age. In September 2006 we moved to a new records system called TipSoft which allowed us to receive our Tips via a computer based program. Moving to TipSoft increased our ability to receive information by introducing WebTips, a secure system based on the principles used for online banking. This compliments our toll-free Tips Line, 1-800-222-8477, allowing us another way to receive information that will help us to solve crime.
In 2009 we moved to receiving Tips through the means of Text Messaging, sending information to CRIMES (274637), keyword TIPSNOW, then providing your information. WE DO NOT TRACE THE ORIGIN OF CALLS – PHONE, WEB or TEXT.
We are one small part of the world-wide organization dedicated to helping the police make arrests, recover property, and remove drugs from the streets. We are proud of our past accomplishments and look forward to the future as we continue to be a part of the CRIME STOPPERS TEAM!
